Expectations and Professionalism Module

This module covers the expectations and practices that foster sustainable and positive relationships between researchers and community partners around the country and around the world.

Field Dressing

Amanda Leahy, a graduate student in Duke’s Divinity school, discusses everyday issues she encountered while doing research in Kenya, talking about the many adaptations she had to make during her time there. Her insights include information about ways in which the clothes and equipment she had packed were perceived by the people she was working with and living among and the challenges involved in sharing information about her life back in the U.S. She discusses ways in which differences between the community where she was doing research and her life in the U.S. both in terms of the socio-economic circumstances and the cultural norms about modesty complicated even a seemingly simple act like sharing her Facebook site.
